A pair of Neapolitan neoclassical stands

A pair of neoclassical tripod and polychrome parcel gilt stands for holding torcheres or candlesticks, a Neapolitan work of the late 18th century period.

Provenance: Collection of Arturo Lopez-Willshaw , hotel Rodoconachi in Neuilly-sur-Seine.

A second pair en suite with this one but repainted and regilt was in the collection of Baron Alexis de Redé at hotel Lambert ( his sale , Sotheby's 17 March 2005 , n° 806 ).

A large Italian baroque embroidery

A large Italian probably Neapolitan baroque silk embroidery representing a sleeping Roman soldier seated against a tree where a monkey watches him next to a horse , a Roman city or Jerusalem in the background.

Beautifully embroidered with some coral beads and mirrors applied to the embroidery.

Circa 1680 - 1700.

In a fine carved oak frame of later date.

Height 220 cm ( 7 ft 3 inches) x width 152 cm ( 5 ft)
