A pair of opera drawings by Pierre Louis Boquet dating 1783

A pair of French watercolours on paper by Pierre Louis Boquet ( 1741 - 1814 ) reprensenting exotic costumes for the opera " Alexandre aux Indes " by Méreault presented in Paris and Versailles in 1783.

the two costumes are for an " American savage girl " and for an " Indian soldier " as indicated on the titles on the original mounts on blue paper under the drawings .

Boquet was a famous designer of costumes and decors who worked mostly for the Kings of France at Versailles under the direction of his father Louis René Boquet , general inspector of the Menus Plaisirs du Roi  .

Mounted In later gilt frames.
